G. Nixon, first president of the University of Guelph Alumni Association in 1966, was 1978 Alumnus of Honour (see "Guelph Alumnus", 11 (1978), no. 4.). In 1994, he was the first recipient of the Alumni Volunteer Award and the first recipient of the Lincoln Alexander Medal of Distinguished Service in 2000.
